Evidence-Based Practices

A practice that has been shown through rigorous research to be effective is known as an evidence-based practice (EBP). Evidence-based practices or EBPs help us to be more effective in the work that we do.  We are able to implement and use skills and strategies that research has shown lead to better outcomes.  Systems are used to doing things the way that they have always done because it is comfortable and what they are used to.  The problem with this is that we do not know if doing things this way will actually lead to the desired outcomes.  In some cases, doing things the way that we have always done them can actually make things worse.  With limited funds available, organizations are more interested in putting resources into practices and programs that have been proven to be effective in producing positive, measurable outcomes.
